Blue Man Group

On an impulse, I went to the Blue Man Group in Madison today. It was only three blocks away from my apartment, so it was hard to resist.

The opening act for the show was DJ Mike Relm. I just thought he was a regular DJ at first... until all the projection screens came on. He's actually a Video DJ. Not only does he mix the sound live, but he scratches and mixes the video too! He has an official video up on Youtube which shows off his work really well. And this interview with him features his Office Space o-face mix, which you really need to check out. I took a video of his Pee-wee Herman mix, but it didn't turn out so well.

The Blue Man Group was pretty amazing. I already have the CD and the DVD from their first tour (which I missed), so I was familiar with the content, but it's a totally different experience live. It was a funny show (making fun of a cliché rock concert), a deep show (they touched on global warming, September 11, information overload, identity, and depression), and an insanely loud and bright show (my chair was thumping the whole night).
